What happens when intelligence becomes a commodity?

I recently read an article about a twelve-year old boy who scored higher than both Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking on the Mensa Test. Immediately, I thought of how many companies are already lining up to hire this bright young mind; possibly even before he ventures on to college.

I went on to think about the importance of knowledge and education as my own daughter recently departed for her freshman year of college. Fortunately, she graduated top of her high school and was accepted to some very select universities. After the sticker shock of paying her first semester’s tuition, I smiled realizing the bright future she will have. After all, a solid education and high intelligence is what the market has always sought, right?

I’ve spent the last 30 years in the enterprise tech space, which includes hardware, software, services – PCs, Y2K, the internet boom, SAAS, outsourcing, cloud, and big data — wow, what a ride it has been! And like any good ride it’s been exhilarating and has occasionally messed with my equilibrium. All in all, this industry continues to be a very exciting place. This particular time holds even more promise. Never before have I felt that, “things are really about to change,” as I do now with the disruptive wave of intelligent automation, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence.

To be a Next Gen Outsourcer, You’d better Have a Digitally-Fueled Service Offering (And You’d Better Have it Now)

Last year in an article entitled “Brace for Impact” I urged service providers to make a critical pivot from the traditional labor arbitrage-centric delivery models to an automation-centric model. In essence, more technology and less people. Why? In a nutshell, because this is what your competitors are doing and where the market is going. If you want to stay in the game you’ll need to embrace and invest in advanced automation. Since then, many in the service provider community have researched automation, some are dabbling in it, many have initiated the transformation to digital labor, but most of you still aren’t there yet. I am sounding the alarm. It’s no longer just about change, it’s about changing quickly. You need to get there now.
